5th International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in Bonn, 28.-29.09.2023

The Fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) was jointly organized by the United Nations and the German government in Bonn from 25 to 29 September 2023. The conference brought together governments from around the world, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia and the private sector to define the global regulatory framework for chemicals management for the next five to ten years.

The conference brought together governments from all over the world, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the scientists and the private sector to define the global political regulatory framework for chemicals management over the next five to ten years.

The aim is to prevent damage caused by chemicals and waste through safe chemicals management. Environmental pollution was hereby acknowledged as the third planetary crisis besides the climate crisis and the extinction of species. The conference discussed goals, measures and responsibilities to make chemicals and their handling worldwide safer and hence encourage a modern, sustainable chemicals policy.

Marius Mühlenberg was able to take part in the discussions as a member of the delegation from the European Federation of Chemical Distributors (FECC). The most important topics were harmonization of legislation, reduction of regulatory complexity, greater support for SMEs and an increase in funding programs to facilitate change.
